What's Happening in Classes
classroom

Southern High School always has a variety of interesting things going on in its halls. From kids learning how to paint and teachers giving an in-depth history lesson, here's some of what is going on in the classrooms of Southern High.
Ms. Wallace's Art 1 class is breaking out the canvas this week to make a painting based on color schemes. Students may paint anything they would like, from trees to fish, fire and headlights; as long as the student has picked a color scheme then anything may go on their canvas.
Mrs. Smith's 11th grade English are currently working on a research paper in the computer lab. Also, she has passed out a new book to the students to start reading: The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. The book follows a group of motley-crew soldiers in the Vietnam War as they go through the hardships and trials of life in the war.
Mr. Lemley's Advanced History class is currently working on a presentation project. The subject could be chosen by the students, as long as it is history related. The projects will be presented in front of the class through speech or powerpoint.
Ms. Freeman's Spanish 1 class are starting their research projects, based on latin american cultures. The project may be a written paper, a poster, a 3-dimensional model, or a cultural food. The students may pick what they want to do, along with the teacher's approval of their topic.

Sophomore Interview
with Cat Wolfe

You've been home schooled & went to school at Eastern for a bit, so why did you go back to Southern?

Home schooling was terrible and it was hard to stay in touch with my friends. Eastern just had a bunch of preps and I couldn't stand any of them.

As a Sophomore, you have all that OGT Prep stuff to do, what is your opinion on the OGT's?

I think it's good to prepare for the OGT's and do your best, but I've noticed that all the extra OGT classes are a little crazy and no one likes them.

So you don't seem to be a fan of OGT Prep, what do you think of other classes?

My favorite classes are World History and Band. My least favorite... I think it would be Geometry, it's not a bad class, I just don't like math.

You're in the Flag Corp and QuizBowl, so.... why not Track and Field?

To be honest, I really hate to run. I know that sounds ridiculous but when it comes to running, I tend to be a little on the lazy side. However some of my friends have been really close to convincing me to join, so, I'm not against it. (I didn't bother trying to convince her, I just dragged her into Mr. Smith's room to sign up. ^-^)

And you are also going to Prom this year, do you mind telling The Echo readers who it is you are going with?

I'm going with Andy Young.

We all know that for Spirit Week you dressed as a blue-haired Neko (cat-person), so do you like anime? Do you have a favorite?

No, not really. I just love being a little on the crazy side during Spirit Week, I just have fun with it. As for the blue hair... I've always kind of wanted blue hair, just never had the guts to do it.

Continuing with various favorites... What are some of your favorite things (other than ninjas)?

Woo! Go Ninjas! My favorite book is “The Princess” by Lori Wick and my absolute favorite movie is “Gone with the Wind”, I just can't watch it enough! I also love the colors purple and silver.

Back to school related topics, how does your Freshman year at Eastern compare to your Sophomore year here at Southern?

My Freshman year was terrible; there was a lot of drama, numerous rumors, and the wrong boyfriend. My Sophomore year has been my best year of school so far! I love my friends, I really enjoy being in Flag Corps, and having a good boyfriend doesn't hurt either!

Is there anything you want to tell The Echo readers?

Well... I guess. For those people that hate tardies, OGT Prep, The Cell Phone Policy, and have had their fill of Mr. Otto, just hang in there. The year is almost over! :)

So in my style of Interview I ask some random questions... So here we go!

Kitty, what's your favorite type of cheese? Emily Ash likes Monterey, I like Muenster, and Andrew Roseberry likes Smoked American.

Well, I'm not much of a cheese person, but I guess Colby would be my favorite.

If you inherited 28 llamas, 5 ducks, and 1 of each of the following, a cheesecake, a notebook/tablet, a brick, a potato, a mushroom, a treehouse, a birthday cake, a blind man, an orange, a rake, a tombstone, a small child, a guard rail, a farmer, an elderly citizen, a bottle of lemon juice, a doorknob, an ankle, a broken thermometer that is set on cold, a 'thin ice' road sign, a leprechaun, and a 'HAPPY RETIREMENT' banner from an eclectic relative, what would you do with them?

WOW! Well, first I would eat the cheesecake and the birthday cake, Then I'd take the 28 llamas and start a llama farm with Olivia, Abbie, Tiffany, and Marty. I'd carry the leprechaun with me everywhere I go. The small child I would train to be a ninja!!! The treehouse would be his ninja base. As for the rest of the stuff (with the exception of the people) I would pile it all up pour gasoline over it all, sit back and watch it burn. Ooo, pretty flames!

Sadly it seems the ducks would die in the fire... poor ducks...

Senior Interview
with Taylor Deem
For The Echo Online, I did a senior interview with Taylor Deem. I asked him how his school year was going as a senior, he informed me that “it is better than last year. Being a senior has its benefits.”  For him the best thing this year  will be graduating. As for the worst, it was a five page English report. Since he is a senior, I asked him what he would like to see changed after he graduates. He would want to see better food and people being more mature. What would be one thing he would miss? He said he will miss Mrs. El and snow days. As for what he won't miss, that would be high school drama. For parting thoughts, I asked him what his tips would be for upcoming seniors and freshmen. For the upcoming seniors, he said “Don't sleep in class. Also do the homework.” And for the freshmen, his thoughts were “enjoy high school. It doesn't last long.”
