    Senior Interview

I interviewed Kris Kleski and asked him various questions about this year and what his plans were when the year ends. For him, senior year was a lot better then his junior year. When I asked him if he was going to miss anything, he wasn't sure due to the fact that he has mixed feelings about it. Some advice for upcoming seniors from him would be to do your work, it's very important. As  for things he will miss, it will be the teachers and students.
I proceeded to ask him what he would do during the summer and where he was going to college. He plans on making money  and taking time to enjoy himself. He plans on going to Ohio University. There, he plans on majoring in chemistry. He is looking forward to college  because he gets to learn more about things he is interested in.

Sophomore Interview

For this issue I interview Martina Arms. She said this year has been amazing compared to last year for her. Her grades have improved, and she has gained a lot of great friends. As a favorite class she picked Dr. Dudding's Technical Communications class because she said she is learning interesting things about computers that she didn't know. She said Spanish is her least favorite due to the fact that she doesn't like a language that she most likely won't use. The most interesting thing for her this year was joining color guard.
For ending questions, I stuck to the end of the year. Martina is glad the year is almost over. She is excited to have some time with friends and from all the drama of high school.  Her plans are to hang out with people, practice with the band, go swimming, and enjoy the summer. For my last question, I asked her what her advice was for upcoming sophomores. She replied with “pay attention for the OGT. When a teacher says something is important, it most likely is.”

Band story
“This is one of the best groups of students that I have ever had the pleasure to direct.” Those were the proud words of Southern high school band director Chad Dodson at this years band banquet, April 13, 2010. Chad talked about how even though we had a bunch of first year kids, we have done exceptionally well. He has been proud in watching all of us, first year to sixth year, grow into even better music players. At the banquet, every student got their grade pin, followed by their marching and pep band pins. This year, sophomore's Emma Powell, Martina Arms,Abbie Williams, Morgan McMillan, Catherine Wolfe, Olivia Searls, and Chase Graham all got their varsity S.  Chad also made a special shout out to all of the band's color guard for doing overly well this year and giving over 100%. and, every year Chad looks for a worthy senior to give a most special award. He has been teaching for 5 years and has only given this award 3 times. To except the award, you have to be a leader, be committed and have good moral character. This year, there was only one senior who was Dustin Smeck. He received this award. The award is the John Phillips Sousa award. This is the highest honor that any high school band student could ever get. Chad told everyone about how Dustin completely earned it. As usual, the banquet ended with a slideshow full of pictures throughout the whole year, done by Todd Wolfe.
