Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team this year was an okay season for them. The head coach was Alan Crisp while reserve was Brian Weaver, and keeping book this season was Linda Teaford. Although the girls had a losing season winning only three games, they had a great year. We will miss our seniors Lynzee Tucker, Cheyene Dunn, and Lindsay Teaford. Returning again next year will be sophomores Kelly Humphrey, Courtney Thomas, Jessica Riffle, Morgan McMillan, and Emily Ash. Freshman; Angie Eynon, Maggie Cummins, Shelbey Pickens, and Kyrie Swann.

The  girls record this year was 3-20. One of their wins was to Ohio Valley Christian, the score ended up being 65-47. Two of their other wins were against Hannan 38-29, and 41-35. Like always one of the big losses was to Eastern. At Southern it always seems to be a big deal when we play Eastern, the girls ended up losing 18-61 when they played there and lost also at home 19-68. Another school we for some reason always try to beat is Meigs, the girls also lost that game 18-49. One of the most highest scoring games that I have heard about was when the girls played Waterford and they ended up losing 14-110. Once all of their games were over the girls had tournament up in Athens where they ended up losing therefore their season was over.  After all the stats and everything was totaled up the high scorer of 2009-2010 girls basketball season, was senior Cheyene Dunn. We will miss her very much.

Even though the girls record was not very great the girls had a great season and they had fun. We will miss the seniors very much and all of the girls returning we wish you good luck.

Basketball

So far The Southern Boys Baskeball record stands at fifteen wins and four losses. In the TVC, they had eight wins and two losses.  The seniors on the team are Cyle Rees, Dustin Salser, Colby Roseberry, and Micheal Manuel. Their next game will be a sectional final match up against Pike Eastern. Pike Eastern was formally  coached by southerns coach, Jeff Caldwell. The teams will be plat on march second at eight O'clock at Wellston High School.
When I asked Zach Manuel and Andrew Guinter how they think the season went they replied, "Glorious!" and "It was fun." I asked them if the could tell me their favorite games, Zach's was Miller at home, and Andrew's was the game at Federal Hocking.
Because basketball is a sport for the fans, I got some other students' opinions on the season. Jordan Taylor says the team had a good year, and he hoped they would go far in the tournaments. Another student who didn't want to be named said that the basketball team has done fairly well this year and all the boys have had their good and bad games.
